Nara (page 2 of 4)

This is the Bell Tower. It is a National Treasure. In the western world, the bell is struck from the inside. In Japan, a log strikes the outside of the bell. You can see the log suspended on ropes on the right side of the picture.

This is one of the main Tori (Shinto arch) in the Nara Park.

This is one of the pathways in the park.

The Nara park is full of tame deer. The man in the picture was a good friend of mine. We both served in our respective country's military. In 1933, when he was apx. 17 years old, he was drafted and sent to China. He did not see Japan again until after the war ended in 1945.

Every year, the horns are cut off the deer to prevent possible injuries.
